Congratulations to Dr. Janice Light, who was named as an ISAAC (International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication) Fellow at the ISAAC conference in Toronto, Canada on August 10, 2016. In her letter of nomination, Dr Pat Mirenda (ISAAC-Fellow) wrote “Janice’s record of research and teaching productivity is unmatched. Yet, for those who have worked with her, her most memorable characteristic is her commitment to the lives of individuals with complex communication needs. She is generous with both her time and her talents, as shown in her willingness to travel to the homes of young children to introduce literacy; to work with graduate students to develop communication programs for teenagers with severe communication challenges; and to help doctoral students investigate interventions that enable children who use AAC to play with their peers. It is rare to find an individual who has impacted the entire AAC community through her research and teaching, and yet is also prized for her profound impact on an individual level.”
