Fager, S., Gormley, J., Beukelman, D., (2016, November). Visual/cognitive processing demands of keyboard layouts for individuals with & without traumatic brain injury (TBI). Poster presentation at the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) in Philadelphia, PA. [Handout].
Abstract: Individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI) may be offered Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) with a range of onscreen keyboard options. This project examines the visual-cognitive processing demands of using an ABC and QWERTY onscreen keyboard by individuals with and without TBI. Results indicate that the performance, perception, and preference of both persons with and without TBI showed an advantage for QWERTY over ABC layout.
