Patient-provider communication for people with severe dysarthria

Summary:  In this article the authors discuss policy and system change for patient provider communications in medical situations.  We suggest four different types of PPC medical orders for inpatient and outpatient communication vulnerable people with severe dysarthria (motor speech disorder).  Finally, accountability checklists to document the individual patient PPC experiences and medical facility PPC programs are provided.
