McCoy, A. & McNaughton, D. (2017, November). Teaching PECS communication partners: A review of the literature. Poster presentation at the Annual Conference of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), Los Angeles, CA. [ Handout ]
Abstract: Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS) is a frequently used augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) technique for individuals with autism. The success of a PECS intervention, however, is dependent on the quantity and quality of learning opportunities provided by communication partners for the individuals with autism (Bondy & Frost, 2001). This systematic review summarizes the published research on training communication partners to provide a PECS intervention, including (a) training methods, (b) immediate and long-term training effects.
